Math 6 Accelerated Home
Curriculum
Math 6 Accelerated is designed to move through the 6th grade Common Core State Standards (CCSS) at a faster pace than Math 6. In addition to moving at a quicker pace, we will also cover some 7th grade math CCSS. Although it is not a guarantee, students enrolled in the Math 6 Accelerated class are on pace to enroll in Math 7 Accelerated.
Math Spirals
All students are responsible for bringing a 3-subject math spiral to class every day. The spirals are divided into three sections: notes and 2 homework sections.
It is important that you keep your spiral neat and organized so that you can easily find the materials needed. Spiral Checks will be done randomly throughout the year to guarantee that you are keeping your spiral organized and completing notes and work as expected.
Assignment Checks
At the end of each unit, students will complete an assignment check. The assignment check is designed to reinforce that students are completing their nightly homework assignments and are actively correcting their mistakes when homework answers are reviewed in class. Five homework problems are selected from the unit and will appear on the assignment check. Students are allowed to use their spirals while completing this task. To earn full credit, students should turn to the corresponding page in the Homework section of their spiral and copy down what they have shown. This should include the problem, all of their work and the correctly labeled answer. That’s it! It is important that you bring your spiral to class, for it would be impossible to complete your assignment check without it.
Quizzes and Tests
Each chapter will include at least one quiz. The quizzes will focus on the skills that are taught in the chapter; whereas the tests will include some skill assessments, but the primary focus will be on the application of the skills.
